Time to Get Growing

Spring is a wonderful season to prepare your garden or lawn to perform at its best. After a long winter, it’s time to green up the areas around your home and start thinking about providing the soil and plants with what they need to spring right back into being productive and lush once again.

A great way to begin the process and grow fresh edibles or herbs with limited space is with a raised garden bed. Elevated garden beds are excellent for yards with poor or compacted soil and make for a cleaner garden.

You can create a garden in minutes with no assembly or tools with our 8-foot raised bed garden planters. These bottomless planters are made of galvanized steel to last longer than wooden planters. You can produce twice the vegetables in half the time with these planters. They’re perfect for ornamentals, edibles, and just about anything else you’d like to grow.

If you have a smaller space, we also offer 6-foot raised bed garden planters. Just make sure that the location you select for your garden has enough sun exposure, and place taller plants — like tomatoes — in the back of the container. Choose a flat, sunny spot to build your raised garden bed and use a shovel to remove soil that prevents the frame from resting in a level position.

A raised garden bed also provides a place to hold flowers or bulbs. Try planting alternating rows of seasonal flowers so that you have something blooming all year round. Flowers attract pollinating insects that will increase yields in your vegetable garden.

To provide plants all the nutrients they’ll need to produce well, we offer organic and natural raised bed mix that is the ideal soil for raised bed organic gardening. It is carefully formulated to provide balance between structure, water retention, drainage, and aeration for growing strong, vigorous vegetables, herbs, and flowers in raised beds, planter boxes, and other container gardens.

If you’re planning to plant your garden conventionally, you’ll need to make sure that the soil conditions are just right for plant growth. Apply pelleted lime in early spring or fall to raise the pH level of acidic soils and improve the growing conditions in lawns, gardens, flower beds, or trees and shrubs. Lime neutralizes acidic soil, making nutrients more available to plants.

Lastly, a general-purpose ratio of 15-15-15 fertilizer with equal parts of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) is often used to promote overall plant health and growth. Nitrogen promotes leaf and stem growth, phosphorus encourages root development and flower production, and potassium aids in overall plant health and disease resistance. This fertilizer can be applied on lawns, gardens, and trees and shrubs.
