Although weather conditions have been brutally hot and dry over the past few months, recent rain showers in different parts of the state have begun to cool temperatures down and replenish the land.

Fall’s approach means hunters everywhere are growing increasingly excited about the upcoming season. To a true outdoorsman, it also means they’ve invested a good amount of time preparing for these hunts.

Abnormal temperature, pulse rate, and respiration rate are common signs of a health-related concern in your animal. Especially while the weather is so hot and dry, it’s important to monitor these vital signs so that you can identify issues early on and contact your veterinarian for further diagnosis.

Each farmstead across our great state has, somewhere on it, unwanted briars and/or brambles of small brush, perhaps in a pasture field or a fencerow. So, the dilemma becomes when is the optimum time to spray to control it. Interestingly, the optimum time is mid-July.

The days are getting longer and the sun’s rays are getting stronger, which means summer is drawing near. We, as humans, have the ability to put on cool clothes and adjust to the increased heat levels. However, our chickens cannot adapt as easily and can quickly become overheated in temperatures over 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Birds do not have the ability to sweat, so you will often notice them spreading their wings or opening their beaks to cool down, but this is not always enough.

There are lots of mutually beneficial relationships in nature, but we often do not take advantage of them. One harmonious circle that you may consider, though, is that of gardens, chickens, and bees. This threesome can be utilized on large operations or backyard hobby farms — don’t be scared to start small and upscale as you get more comfortable managing each aspect.
