Tips to Prepare for Hunting Season

Posted on Thursday Oct 26, 2023 at 02:49PM in Recreation

Fall’s approach means hunters everywhere are growing increasingly excited about the upcoming season.

To a true outdoorsman, it also means they’ve invested a good amount of time preparing for these hunts.

Here are six tips to prepare for hunting season:

  1. Plant food plots.

Food plots can greatly benefit the health of animals. Planting a plot in the spring can reap great rewards when it’s time to hunt in the fall.

  1. Set up trail cameras.

Summer is great for setting up cameras to monitor wildlife and take inventory of potential harvests come hunting season.

  1. Clean and check your equipment.

More than likely, you last cleaned your gear after your final hunt of the previous season. Head out to your favorite hunting spots in late summer to check your stand, and stand straps. Even shoot a few targets to help improve field accuracy. Practice makes perfect.

  1. Pay a visit to the landowner.

If someone has given you permission to hunt on his/her land, show your appreciation by visiting the landowner over the summer and offering to help with work around the property.

  1. Get in shape physically and mentally.

Hunting can involve a lot of walking and sudden movements, so spend some time walking and performing other exercises in the months before the season to get your body ready.

  1. Put together an emergency supply kit.

It’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Be sure to have your cellphone, a flashlight, first aid kit, bottles of water, map or GPS, and extra batteries.

And where’s the place to get essential products, knowledge, and advice before hunting season? Your local Stockdale’s location! They carry ample hunting supplies that are sure to help you get the big one this year!
